On a rainy drive from Portland, OR to San Francisco, CA we had the opportunity to stop-off and photograph one of my mother's architectural projects! My mom, better known to everyone else in the world as Michaela Mahady, is one of the original architects of the Minnesotan architecture firm Sala Architects.
She designed this bed & breakfast in 1998. It is nestled in the Redwood Forest near Orick, California and is easily visible from Highway One. The barn structure is clad in wood board and batten siding and incorporates craftsman detailing.
This charming building was originally designed as a horse stable with an apartment above. Now, the lower level has been converted into a full-time apartment while the upstairs apartment is actually available to rent through VRBO!
It was so fun to be able to see this project during our drive on the west coast. We're already looking forward to our next visit where we plan to stay a night or two in the apartment!
